The updated Para Surfing Classifications take into greater consideration the impact of athletes’ impairments on their surfing ability in order to create a fairer competition. In addition, the ISA held the first ever International Para Surfing Classifier Training Course in September 2019 and now has a small team of internationally certified Para Surfing classifiers. This will result in an opportunity for all international Para Surfing athletes to be officially classified via an on-site medical assessment at the ISA World Adaptive Surfing Championship and international Para Surfing events moving forward. This will contribute towards the wide-spreading of a unified ISA Para Surfing classification system across international events.
