Rescheduled NZ Longboard and SUP Open Takes Place This Weekend

The rescheduled 2015 Coast Papamoa Beach New Zealand Longboard and SUP Open takes place at Papamoa Beach this weekend (11th – 12th April) after having been postponed earlier in the year due to a lack of swell.

The event will bring together longboard and stand up paddleboard surfers from around New Zealand eyeing wins across the eight divisions contested over the two days.

This is the second year the Open has been held with the 2014 event experiencing phenomenal conditions at Papamoa Beach.

This year the swell is forecast to be small but contestable with light offshore winds.

The small conditions will suit the newly added Amazon Surf Logger Division which caters for traditional single fin longboards.  The logger division has been included as an expression session in past events but the increased interest in the division now warrants its own division where heats will be contested through to a final.

The ‘logger’ is joined by the more familiar divisions of Men’s and Womens, Over 40s, Over 50s and the SUP Surf and SUP Race.

Coast Papamoa Beach has come on board as the title sponsor of the event through until 2016 adding to the existing family of event sponsors.  The new partnership will help promote the event further as the premier New Zealand Longboard and Stand Up Paddleboard event.

Coast Papamoa Beach director Steve Short says it is a fantastic event for surfing and for Papamoa.

“We are proud to be associated with the event and, as a surfer myself, I will be taking a keen interest in the competition.”

“To have the New Zealand Longboard and Stand Up Paddleboard Open on our doorstep is great for the local community and provides another reason for those who live outside the area to visit our slice of paradise,” he says.

Coast Papamoa Beach is a beachside master-planned development in early Papamoa, spanning 24 hectares.
