“Surfing Australia strives extremely hard to be an innovative sporting organisation and expanding our digital presence is not only a priority but also in line with the dramatic increase in use of digital technology into our everyday lives.

“The quality of the content on and the engaging style is sure to appeal across all generations of Australian surfers and will be a great gateway to all the programs and initiatives Surfing Australia provides across the sport of surfing.”

Surfing Australia CEO Andrew Stark said: “This is an exciting new venture for our organisation and one that will hopefully create a far broader audience engagement and also a sustainable business model.

“The major sports in Australia all have significant broadcast revenue to drive their sport pathway and this is our opportunity to capitalise on a broadcast platform to enable us to reach a broader audience and to continue to invest into the sport development pathway. This platform will help fulfil our purpose to create healthier and happier Australians through experiencing the joy of surfing for life.”

Brand New Media CEO Perry Smith said the organisation is using the best technology and content marketing services to deliver compelling surfing content to all devices anywhere, anytime.

“Brand New Media (BNM) is extremely excited to be working with Surfing Australia to bring the most innovative digital channel experience to Australia’s surfing community and the broader surfing world.”

Improving the digital capacity of National Sporting Organisations is seen as critical to the future of Australian sport and has been an area that has been supported by the Australian Government, through the Australia Sports Commission (ASC).

“The Australian Sports Commission applauds Surfing Australia’s efforts to improve its digital capacity to enable it to talk to a broader range of its participants,” said acting ASC General Manager of the Participation and Sustainable Sports Division Andrew Collins.

Surfing Australia has worked closely with the ASC over the past three years to look at ways to commercialise its business. This new digital strategy is the next project in a successful relationship that has seen the birth of other surfing programs such as the VEGEMITE SurfGroms program for 5-12 year olds and the Be the Influence Australian Boardriders Battle.
