From October 6-8, 2016, Puro Surf and the International Surfing Association hosted the first ever ISA Surf Level 1 Instructor course in El Salvador.

The ISA Course was presented by Gustavo Corrales, ISA Course Presenter from Costa Rica, whose charisma, positivity, and easy humor had a great impact on the local instructors in El Salvador. Marcelo Castellanos, Executive Director of Puro Surf, said Gustavo not only inspired them not only to be better and more professional instructors but also to be better people.

“Gustavo told us all about the qualities of a good instructor and the impact we can have on the country, the people who surround us and who we teach. He inspired everyone on how to be better people and instructors both in the water and out of the water. The ISA Surf level 1 Instructor Course gave us the knowhow and skills to become more professional surf instructors and this will open a world of opportunities for the country and local community.  We are all very proud to have been a part of this because it is an event that marks the country’s surfing history with the sport being legitimized as a positive way of life, industry, and sport.”

The event was organized by Puro Surf Performance Academy, a local company founded just five years ago for the love of surfing. Puro Surf’s mission is to develop surfing as a sport and industry in El Salvador. Currently, they give surf lessons, tours, and personalized training using video analysis and are also in the process of making a hotel with training facilities that will be open to the public in July of 2017. This training center will be equipped with training programs for all levels of surfing based on the 4 pillars of the sport – Physical, Physiological, Technique, Tactic. There will be a gym, Jiu Jitsu studio, open space for Yoga classes, Video Analysis rooms, skatepark, training pool, and more. The best part of all, it is located directly in-front of a Salvadorian rocky-right point break and A-Frame rivermouth called El Zonte.

Puro Surf is very excited and motivated to have the support of the ISA and to be working together for the same vision of having a better surfing future.
