The Board of Directors of Surfing South Africa has named the Management Team of the 2014 South African Junior Team which has been invited to participate in the ISA World Junior Championships at La Fae Beach, Salinas in Ecuador between March 29th and April 13th this year.
The experienced Isaac February of Cape Town has been appointed Team Manager. February was the Manager of both the South African Team that competed in the ISA World Surfing Games in 2011 the South African Junior Team in Panama in 2012.
Surfing South Africa Coaching Director and Level 2 ISA Coach, Greg Emslie of East London is the Head Coach.
ISA World Master Gold Medalist Greg Emslie
Emslie, a former World Tour campaigner, multiple National Champion and current ISA World Masters Champion will be assisted by former World Pro Am Surfing Champion and five time SA Masters team member David Malherbe who is based in Coffee Bay.
Malherbe has been coaching national and provincial teams and elite surfers since 1998 and was one of the first individuals in South Africa to qualify as a Level 2 ISA Coach.
Tasha Mentasti of Durban has been appointed as the second Assistant Coach and Chaperone.
Mentasti is a highly qualified Level 2 ISA Coach and ISA Coaching course presenter and has represented South Africa surfing as a junior and at senior level.
She competed for South Africa at the ISA World Surfing Games which was held at La Fae Beach in Salinas, Ecuador in 2004 where she ended seventh.
South Africa is one of over 30 countries from five continents that has been invited to the 2014 ISA World Junior Championships which last took place in Salinas in 2009. The annual tournament determines the World Junior Team Champions and medalists in the Under 18 Boys and Girls and Under 16 Boys and Girls divisions.
Surfing South Africa is the recognized governing body for the sport and is a member of the South African Sports Confederation and Olympic Committee (SASCOC) and the International Surfing Association (ISA). All South African surfing teams that participate in international events are ratified by the Board of Directors of Surfing South Africa.
