Let me start off by asking you this….what is so special about surfing in Fiji?
Besides the alluring natural beauty of our marine environment, Fiji is a country whose people are born and raised along the coastal shore. Beyond the barrier reefs of our coastline lies some of the worlds best surf. So what do you get when you combine naturally bread watermen and women with perfect empty surf….a legacy worth investing in to say the least.
To show our commitment to investing in the future of surfing, the Fiji Surfing Association has organized the inaugural Powerade Junior Pro. This is the first event of its kind in Fiji and all throughout the South Pacific. What differentiates this event from those of the past is the cash prize money involved. First place under 18 male contender will receive $1000.00 cash and the women’s first place will take home $600.00!!!! Talk about investments and money isn’t the only prize up for grabs. There are spectacular trophies to be won and a brand new surfboard worth over $800.00. Naming rights sponsor for this event is Powerade presented by Coca Cola who have come onboard as our biggest cash sponsorship in the history of organized surfing in Fiji. Also onboard is Cloudbreak clothing and Redbull represented by our local surf brand, Fiji Surf Co.
Some of the entries extend internationally including New Zealand, Australia, Samoa, New Caledonia, Vanuatu and Tahiti.
It is an opportunity for junior surfing development and junior recognition. This competition is the pinnacle surfing event for all junior surfers, much as the Coke Games is for Athletics in Fiji. We hope that this event will reveal the future stars of the Pacific Games, the Olympics Games, and our top picks for the World Championships.
The event takes place at the Sigatoka Sand Dunes starting September 3-5th. We invite all spectators to come and support local surfing and take part in some of our surprise activities plus giveaways!
