Association Swiss Stand Up Paddle (ASSUP) took their coaching training to the next level by hosting their first Surf SUP, Open Water SUP, and ISA/ILS Water Safety Courses from October 3-8, 2017 at Playa Oyambre, in the Cantabria Provence of Northern Spain.
The course participants and ISA presenters Gael Vuillemin, Cedric Reynard and Andy Joyce were challenged by the wide variety of conditions thrown at them by the Autumnal ocean and sky.
Consulting ISA Course Presenter Andy Joyce said:
“We had a great time adapting our approach to the different learning environments. Onshore, offshore, big and small waves, sun, rain and everything in between. Each night we sat around the campsite or the local towns seafood restaurants sharing the stoke!”
The courses enable the students, once qualified, to teach more advanced SUP disciplines worldwide in surf and open water conditions. With the ISA’s partnership with the International Lifesaving Federation on a Surf/SUP Instructor specific water safety course, the SUP training is backed up with a robust, comprehensive and high-quality rescue award to ensure coaching is done safely.
Cedric Reynard said:
“We had amazing ISA Open Water and SUP Surf Courses in Spain, the first ones organised by ASSUP. I want to thank Andy for sharing his great experience. Also, a special thanks to the Spanish Surf Federation for giving us the chance to make the course in Cantabria. For all Swiss SUP instructors who usually are surrounding by mountains and using flatwater lakes, it is a great opportunity to extend our knowledge and limits in an ocean environment.”
The presenting group will work together after to accredit Gael and Cedric to present these SUP courses in the future.
