The Vic Bay Quad is contested by the five Cape based provincial surfing associations. They are hosts Southern Cape, neighbours Boland and Western Province and Eastern Cape cousins Border and Eastern Province. Surfers competed in Men’s and Women’s Open plus Men’s Over 30, Over 40 and Over 50 Divisions and at the end of the contest all the surfer’s allocated scores are totalled to determine the team champions.
There is no prize money at stake and the champions take home a medal and a trophy.
The 2013 Vic Bay Quad was due to take place in mid August but was postponed when huge surf made it impossible to run the event. Despite starting in pouring rain on Friday the Vic Bay Quad was a success and a fitting tribute to John Pfaff, whose son David, presented the finalists with their trophies and medals.
