North Beach to host Durban July Surfing Extravaganza

Durban, KwaZulu-Natal –  South Africa’s local surfers will get the chance to win a share of R68,000 in prize money and secure some precious ratings points in mid July when the 2A rated Durban July Surfing Extravaganza takes place at North Beach in Durban.

Not only will North Beach play host to the 2A rated Pro Surf Tour event for Men, Women, Pro Junior Boys and Girls and U18, U16 and U14 divisions for boys and girls but it will also host an Inter schools surfing tournament for local school teams.

The surfing forms part of the 2014 Durban July Extravaganza which will showcase all that Durban and surrounds can offer during the holiday season including a mobile skateboard ramp. mountain biking, trail runs, powerboat, jet ski and Hobie cat  demonstrations as well as arts and crafts and jazz concerts.

The early rounds of the Durban July Surfing Extravaganza will take place between July 11 and 12 with all ten finals taking place on Sunday July 13.

The event is sanctioned by Surfing South Africa, presented by Durban Stars and hosted by KZN Central Surfriders Association. Entry is open to all Surfing South Africa PST members who should enter the contest online at www.surfingsouthafrica.co.za before entries close on June 30.

Surfing South Africa is the recognised governing body for surfing in South Africa and is a member of the South African Sports Confederation and Olympic Committee (SASCOC) and the International Surfing Association (ISA).
