GSI will send 400 boards to Peruvian children
The Australian company Global Surf Industries, faithful to its motto "Life is better when you surf", shipped out 400 surfboards as a donation to different schools on the Peruvian coast. This way, children with few resources will be able to approach surfing and in turn begin the road that could one day lead to a sports career and a new way of living.
Global Surfing Industries (GSI), an Australian company that is the largest distributor of surfboards in the world did not hesitate to make this donation. This same donation was negotiated by a fairly new Peruvian NGO, called "WAVES for Development –OLAS para el Desarrollo -".
The above-mentioned NGO was formed by a group of people who love to surf and are interested in promoting sustainable development in coastal localities with few resources, utilizing the waves as the fundamental resource.
To summarize the donation, it was WAVES for Development who reached out to the IPD –Peruvian Sports Institute- and to the FEPTA –Peruvian Surfing Federation- in order to solicit support for the reception of the 400 boards and to celebrate the union of the two organizations.
Even the Department of Education became involved in order to develop a joint pilot plan based on a program that utilizes the donated boards to benefit the youth that inhabit the Peruvian coasts.
More specifically, starting next February, thanks to the support of all the companies involved, WAVES for Development will begin to execute their pilot plan in Lobitos. This will enable the local youth, aside from practicing surf, to participate in innovative educational workshops that will foster their development. Also, through a program of volunteerism, local tourism will be developed.
