According to the Team Manager, Karin Sierralta: "Peru placed second in the last Pan American Surfing games at home, this time we want to correct the errors that caused us to fall a few points short of the title. We have been working very hard to achieve our objective. We are going for the title.”
Peru was ranked second in the general category in the last Pan American Surfing Games, which was held in Punta Rocas.  In the end, Brazil was the conquering nation.  Although the Incas gained three gold medals:  Analí Gomez in Women’s, Gabriel Villaran in Open and Roberto Meza in Longboard.  They did not win the team gold medal mainly because their juniors had a weak performance.

This weak point may be repeated in these games, due to the gap in talented surfers coming from the generations of Villaran, Alarcón, Malpartida, Swayne, Aramburu, De Romaña, etc.  A gap that with each passing year is being minimized as the young guns like Carlos Mario Zapata, Cristobal de Col, Martin Jeri Jr. and Juninho Urcia, among others, get older.
