PERÚ

The first WCT in Peruvian history

In the second half of September, the ASP announced the sixth stop of this year’s WCT Women’s tour, which will take place in Peruvian waves.  The Máncora Perú Classic, will take place in the perfect left wave of Máncora in the north of Peru, from October 30th till November 4th.

The 2004 World Champion, Sofía Mulanovich, a fundamental person whose presence validates the event, commented:  "The peak remains in the north of Peru and has very enjoyable lefts, I have been going to the North since I was a little girl, when we had holidays off from school.  My parents have a house in Piura, a small city that has incredible lefts everywhere".

"I am very happy because I have never surfed in a stage of the WCT at home. It’s a dream that is becoming a reality for me.  It is going to be very good that everyone knows the wave and to be accompanied by people that cheer for me.  I grew up surfing in Máncora and that gives me added confidence", continued the Peruvian.

The Peruvian, Mulanovich, came from winning the fourth stop in Spain and is currently ranked third, less than 200 points from the Australian Samantha Cornisa, the leader of the tour.  The Peruvian stop will be crucial in defining this year´s title holder.

Máncora is a long left with a rocky bottom and is perfect for executing a lot of maneuvers.  Also, on its best day it presents some barreling sections.  The little city of Máncora is known for the large quantity of tourists that come to visit from all parts of the world.  A large majority of them go to Macchu Picchu and visit Mancora afterwards.  It’s a small, picturesque city with paradise beaches and all the accommodations necessary for the realization of an event as grand as a WCT stop.
