Without a doubt 2007 has been a great year for the Peruvian Sebastián Alarcón. Besides leading the Latin American ranks for the past six months, he gained his fourth Peruvian National Championship two weeks ago, as well as a new little Chevrolet Spark.
In the final battle, Sebastián put forth a strong performance and conquered his toughest opponent Manuel Roncalla, allowing him to gain the title. The chronicle of the event continues in the following paragraphs –press release sent by the end of September-, according to the press agency of the Peruvian Surfing Federation: Grupo Firbas.
With a large crowd watching and the ocean delivering great waves, the 2007 Chevrolet Peruvian Surfing Tour came to an end this past Sunday. The champions Sebastián Alarcón and Valeria Solé gained their titles on this eighth and final day of the nationals on the beach of La Pampilla of Miraflores.
After all the winning titles had been claimed by surfers in others divisions, the attention shifted to the Open grand finale. Manuel Roncalla, the leader up until then and Sebastián Alarcón, three time National Champion, were the only ones vying for both the 2007 crown and the Chevrolet Spark 0 Km being awarded.
In the end, with two excellent waves at the start of the series, Sebastián Alarcón managed to score 15 points. This allowed him to claim victory in the eighth stage of the Chevrolet tour and also gained him the honor of a fourth National Title. Combining the six best results of the eight competitions in which he competed, Alarcón finished the season with 4910 cumulative points, while Roncalla finished with 4555.
On the other side, in the Women’s Open division in La Pampilla, Nadja de Col was the winner. But the overall grand champion of the afternoon was Valeria Solé, one of the most promising athletes of the Peruvian surfing scene. Valeria, aside from gaining the title in the Women’s Open, was awarded the Championship in Sub 18 and Sub 16. However, the crown in Sub 14 went to Macarena Velez, while Melanie Giunta won it in Sub 10 and 12.
Another promising athlete of the sport, Carlos Mario Zapata, won the championship in Sub 14 and 16. Piero Delucchi triumphed in Sub 18, while Juninho Urcia won in Sub 12 and Alonso Strap won in Sub 10. Finally, Tamil Martino achieved the title in the Longboard category and Ronald Raygada in the Masters.
