MAJOR PLAYERS JOIN “ISA SURFSCHOOL REGISTER”
When you Google “surfschools” you find out how big this business really is and you will realize the ISA’s project to establish “standards” across this surfschool industry of ours is an ambitious one.
We all have our own experiences, either personal or of acquaintances, which indicate there are many dubious players in the surf coaching system.
Whilst the ISA expects its Surfschool Register to be an evolving program, it is heartened to see the enthusiastic response from a leading group of “responsible and well credentialed” operators so far.
We are pleased to announce that the following organizations and surfschools were happy to join with the ISA in this initiative in the last weeks, bringing the group to 80 spread across a number of countries.
Inatori Marine-Sports Centre, Japan
Quiksilver Boardriders Surfschool, Bali
Confederation of Brasilian Surfing [CBS]
Surf School Lanzarote S.L., Canaries, Spain
Academia Aloha de Surf, Miramar Nth, Argentina
Surfing Australia Surfschools Network, quality surfschools spread across all States of Australia
Surfing New Zealand
Witch’s Rock Surf Camp, Costa Rica
Tim Jones of Surfschool Lanzerote saw the Register as a great idea. “I am one of the founding members of the British Surfing Associations coaching schemes and opened the first commercial surf school in the UK in ‘83. It’s great to see surf coaching come this far and I will be more than happy to register my school and also to give any advisory help if ever necessary” said Tim in recent correspondence.
Hiro Takahashi & Matt Sato-Coombe of Inatori Marine-Sports Centre are right behind the ISA programs. As well as registering their surfschool they have become “authorized presenters” of ISA level 1 coaching accreditation programs in Japan and we are sure they will provide a great resource for Japanese surfers. They are advertising their courses now.
Marcos Conde an “ISA Official Presenter” in association with Confederation of Brazilian Surfing [CBS] has recently conducted accreditation programs in Costa Rica and is working on both surfschool registrations and accreditation courses in Brazil. He is enthusiastic about the opportunity for the ISA projects to help to develop surfing livelihoods in Latin America.
Turko Adi, Director of the Academia Aloha de Surf sees the ISA connection with his surfschool as a great resource of information and support and is our first registration in Argentina.
Colin Briers - Marketing Director of Witch’s Rock Surf Camp at Tamarindo offered his facilities for our recent coach accreditation program and accredited all his coaches. He saw the ISA Registration of his surfschool as a way to bring further recognition to his already professional operation.
This ISA School Register initiative is developing its global foundation and we believe this is a useful pathway of support for surfing development worldwide.
If you want to bring your surfschool to the “ISA family” this is the time to do it. We welcome your enquiry.
