The 42nd All Japan Surfing Championship was held 22/AUG – 26/AUG in Niijima, Tokyo for the first time in 5 years. As the location is known as “Great Island to surf”, we all expected to be coming to be the big memorial event. Nearly 900 amateur surfers all around Japan gathered, and competed to be the champ in each category. (14 classes including short board, long board and body board)
Unexpectedly, we changed the site as there were no waves at the usual surf point. Getting there by driving or walking under burning strong sunshine was unpredictable for all competitors, which went on for 5 days.
Remarkably, junior surfers, especially Kids surfers aged under 12 heats were stunning and also, Girls class which is a new division for 2007. A surfer who was involved in several ISA events, Miss. Sayuri Hashimoto won the game.
