The Invasion of mermaids in Argentina
Female surfing continues to advance in leaps and bounds as the number of girls that are encouraged to ride continues to increase with time. And in spite of the cold crude oil that they tend to flinch at, the women are not deprived of their winter sessions in the main beaches of Mar del Plata, the capital of Argentinean surf.
With the Pellizzari sisters battling in different parts of the world, the argentine surfers are slowly but surely making their presence known to the surfing world.
The invasion began in 2007
This past January, on Abracadabra Beach, Argentine female surfers had the opportunity to show their skills in the first ever women’s surf festival called “INVASION DE SIRENAS –Mermaids invasion-”. Over the course of two days, 100 girls competed and mingled within the context of an event where the female esthetic was cared for by Marina Boullosa and Agostina Pellizzari, organizers of the event that was sponsored by Rip Curl Girls, Go Surfing and other brands.
In 2008 the second edition of the “Invasión de Sirenas”, along with the event, will travel and be brought to countries like Peru, Panama, Costa Rica and Mexico.
For all of the girls that want to participate in this event, but still have not had luck with surfing, the school cycle of the Sumagic surf school begins on Guillermo beach on December 20th of this year.
The classes will be taught by professor Joela Jofre (surfer, lifeguard, and Physical Education Professor), and will be executed with the collaboration of Lorena Cotta Ramosino, who is also a surfer and lifeguard.
