ISA SCHOLARSHIP GROWS 400% FOR 2008


San Diego, Calif.– The International Surfing Association (ISA), the World Governing Authority for Surfing, is now accepting applications for the ISA Individual Scholarship Program.  In 2008, twenty Scholarships will be awarded to junior surfers around the world.

In response to two powerful earthquakes having struck the region of the Mentawai Islands, SurfAid International is currently receiving donations for relief efforts where SurfAid has been and continues to provide humanitarian services.

GSI will send 400 boards to Peruvian children

The Australian company Global Surf Industries, faithful to its motto "Life is better when you surf", shipped out 400 surfboards as a donation to different schools on the Peruvian coast.  This way, children with few resources will be able to approach surfing and in turn begin the road that could one day lead to a sports career and a new way of living.

Surfing goals: In the future I want to be a professional surfer and also continue with my studies. That’s my dream. Also I want to be part of the National Team, travel to other countries and compete on the best beaches.

Name of his school: Colegio José Olaya Balandra 

Juninho Urcia is a quiet, humble kid who loves surfing. He’s also a person very connected to the sea; his father is a fisherman as was his grand father. Juninho comes from Huanchaco in the North Peruvian coast, little Urcia is a direct descendent of the Mochicas, millenarian culture that conquered the sea with the Totora Horses –Caballitos de totora-; the first surfers of the world according to various sources.
