Wilber Albarenga, the best local in the waves of Punta Roca
Wilber "Policía" Albarenga proved to be the top local surfer in the El Salvador Latin Pro, held on the sixth stage of the ALAS tour during the first weekend of September.
The contest took place in the waves of Punta Roca, which is situated in the Salvadorian city of La Libertad.
The Salvadorian team did not make it to the finals, but they were led by “Policía” who had a strong performance that placed him third.
As he was not seeded, his path to the semi-finals began in heat 1 of the first round. From there it was a long road to the semi-finals as he went up against Luis Vindas, a tough competitor who was eventually crowned champion of the contest.
The highlight of Albarenga’s performance was in the quarter finals when he scored a 15.50, up against his fellow country man Israel Arenivar, and assured himself a pass to the semi-finals. Moments before the end of the contest, he scored 13.74 points. But this was not enough to beat the 14.67 that Vindas scored.
Other Salvadorians that were defending their country’s title were:
Israel Arenivar (5th place), Marcelo Castellanos and Pedro Delgado (17th place), José Díaz (25th place), Emilio Duran, Salvador Morales, Luis Martínez and Luis Martínez Hum (33rd place), José Perla, Edwin Campos, Cristian Martínez and Toribio Domínguez in 41st place.
