Lack of waves on the second stop of the Bodyboarding Nationals
The second stop of the National Bodyboarding Tour took place at Playa España. The competition was held during the second weekend of September, a success despite the unfortunate fact that the waves were absent on the last day.
From the start, the uncertain conditions throughout the week caused less than 100 participants to show. Many feared it would be a wasted trip since there was no assurance of sufficient waves.
In the end, the conditions cooperated until the finals, when the ocean had enough and the organization and competitors decided to distribute points and awards.
The heats continued and once more the ocean would not cooperate. The championship was stopped for two hours in the hopes that there would be better conditions. Normally, this would a nuisance to the competitors.
But in this championship a different environment existed and the competitors took advantage of the break: to rest, to comment on what had happened up until that moment, to restore their strength and some of the youngest attendees conversed with their idols and asked for advice.
It isn’t often that you can meet riders on your beach at the level of Rui Ferreira (second in the world), Iliver Herrera, Ardiel Jiménez or Luis Pérez.
The next date of the National Bodyboarding Tour will be in the Canaries.
