El Salvador waits for its ALAS

El Salvador is getting ready to receive the best athletes of Latin American surfing. From August 30th to September 1st the Movistar Latin Pro Punta Roca will take place in La Libertad. The event is a four star category and it’s organized by the Latin American Surfing Association. All the surfers who are fighting for the ALAS 2007 champion title will compete in this event.

Punta Roca is a tubular wave, and it’s a bit dangerous due to the fact that the waves are close to the rocks. When there is low tide the rocks jut out of the water like a “Mother Rock” cutting directly in the breaks line.

Waves are divided into three sections. The outside extreme is known as Punta Roca and it’s the stronger and thicker section of the wave. The second part is in front of the City Cemetery and is less barreling but with a lot of strength. The last section is located in La Paz Beach where a lot of people learn how to surf because the waves are calmer. On the high tide the three sections come together becoming one long-route wave.

Movistar Latin Pro Punta Roca will be the sixth stage of the official ALAS tour 2007 and will be honored by the having most experienced local surfers’ attend such as Wilber Albarenga and Jimmy Rotherham.
