The second event in the 2007 Rip Curl Gromsearch Series makes a welcome return to the Cape Peninsula this weekend after an absence of 18 months and the popularity of this tournament is highlighted by the fact that the maximum entry has been received in all three boys and both girls divisions.

Top seed in the Under 16 boys division is National junior team surfer Matthew Bromley, who has just returned from a trip to Bali and is raring to go. Fellow Kommetjie star Mikey February is seeded second in the Under 16 group and is the Under 14 division top seed while Melkbos competitor JC Susan's good form this year sees him seeded third in the Under 16 group.

Dane Staples of St Francis Bay is the fourth seed in the Under 16's and second seed in the Under 14's and Ryan Klynsmith of Durban and another long Beach local, Jarred Veldhuis are the 5th and 6th seeds respectively in the Under 16 group.

Veldhuis is third seed in the Under 14 division, Durban's Mikey Venter is seeded fourth with Davey Brand of Kommetjie fifth seed and Daniel Wilson seeded sixth.

Danielle Johnson of Muizenberg heads up the Under 16 girls division with SA team member Tanika Hoffman of Kommetjie second seed.

Morag Steele of Somerset West and Leigh Geyer of Durbanville are the other two seeded surfers here.

Heidi Palmboom of the Bluff, Bianca Buitendag of George, Sabrina Scott of Kommetjie and Alex Morris of St James are the top Under 14 girls and the top under 12 boys are Slade Prestwich of Scottburgh, Joshua Smit of Durban, Daniel Buitendag of George and Max Armstrong of Kommetjie.

The Rip Curl Gromsearch offers R13,500 in prize money across the divisions and gives participants the chance to qualify for the Grand Final on October 6 & 7.

A group of surfers from the C Dog Academy will also be competing in the event as will a group of young surfers from the Muizenberg area who are coached and mentored by the surfschools in the area.

WP Surfing, who are the hosts this weekend, and will be hoping that the Peninsula produces good surf and fair weather for the Gromsearch and are keen that the event takes place at Long Beach in Kommetjie.

While Long Beach is the preferred venue, this weekend's tournament is mobile and if conditions are not suitable on the Atlantic coast the Gromsearch will move to Muizenberg.

All surfers and officials will meet at Long Beach at 7.30 am on Saturday and Sunday where a decision will be taken on the venue for each day's surfing.
The venue will be available after 7.30am from the WP Surf Line at 0822334001 on both days.
