New Zealand update

There is plenty of surfing action taking place around the globe and Kiwis are amongst most of the events. Firstly the guys were all in action over the weekend at various events.
Maz Quinn posted the best result with a 25th placing at the Honda US Open held at Huntington Beach. The result jumped him to 86th on the ratings. Maz surfed through two rounds of the event before narrowly being eliminated by Jay Thompson and Arritz Arranburu. Bobby and Jay were both eliminated from the event in their first rounds.
Then there were the boys competing at the DaKine Pro Junior held at Narrabeen Australia. Unfortunately the boys all took an early exit. Richard Christie went out in the second round along with Luke Hughes and Morehu Roberts was knocked out in the first round.
Ryan Hawker is competing at the Quiksilver World King of the Groms for the third consecutive time. The event kicks off overnight Tuesday and is being held in Capebreton, France.
The first year Hawker finished 33rd and followed that up last year with a 17th so his reuslts are moving in the right direction and he expects to do a lot better this time around. Capebreton is only small at the moment so a nice kick in the swell would suit Hawker nicely.
The Billabong groms are ending their overseas jaunt with a Pro Junior event being held at Canggu in Bali. Their trip started off with Occy's Grom Comp in Aussie then the Rusty Gromfest before they headed over to Indo for more tropical waves.
It will be interesting to see how Matt Hewitt, Buck Woods and Keone Campbell fare at the bowly right-hand wave. Unfortunately there will be no event for Paige Hareb who joined the team late. Her division at the event was cancelled - more time to free surf hey?!
