Iquique gears up for the 8th Pan-American Surfing Games
During the month of November in the waves of Iquique, surfers will battle for the title in the 8th Pan-American Surfing Games. For this reason, surfers from the entire American continent will transcend on the country of Chile and during the course of a week will compete as individuals and as teams representing their respective nations.
Iquique’s exact date of foundation is unknown. However, the one thing that is known is an approximate date that would correspond to 7000 years B.C. Iquique signifies ‘belly of the birds’ and would have been founded by the pre-Columbian town called Chango.
The Chilean waves enjoy a very good international reputation, especially in the North where the waves of Arica y Iquique excel. This held true and was demonstrated in the Rip Curl Pro Search Arica 2007, where the entire world watched and was amazed by the potential of a country to the south called Chile.
