Maxi Cross with great performance in Maitencillo
Maxi Cross from Reñaca was the standout of the first stage of the Surf and Bodyboard Tour presented by Thermoskin, Maui & Sons and Surfer’s Paradise. The event took place in Maitencillo with pretty good waves, ranging from 3 to 4 meters. The day was full of waves and in the main division where Maxi Cross, Matias Mediano, Alvaro Varela, Jose Luis Villalon and Basilio Rojas clearly dominated their sets from the beginning.
Juniors began their show in the quarters, where Maxi Cross earned his ticket to the final with the experienced surfer “Tito” Varela. At the semifinals, Cross was in front of the set when he took advantage of a good right with a clean floater. Varela rode a good left to put pressure on Cross.
Lander de Gaminis battled and got third place in his first Open final at just 14 years old. Kepa Leguina earned fourth place although he was very tired in the final he succeeded in becoming one of the best in the event for the first time in his career.
Sandro Mena, from Horcon, the defender of the title, made it clear that he wanted to keep the crown for himself. He beat the local Kepa Leguina, who showed a great level of surfing even though he hadn’t had much physical training.
Lander De Gaminis placed third and with bad luck Nicolas “Rapalita” Undurraga kept fourth place in a heavy set with 4 meter waves that stopped him from doing his thing.
Bodyboarder Renato Arellano de Quintero showed that he wanted to win and o in a close final, with 4 and 5 meters sets, left behind Nico Penna from Viña del Mar, current Champion Felipe Soler from Maitencillo - and also local Ariel Ghigliotto.
Finally, in the Ladies division the final was carried out in big surf. The girls showed their guts too as they entered the water to fight for the title. Carolina Moraes was the winner, followed by Valentina Gaona and Kathy del Rio.
The next stage of the event will take place from August 18-19 and it will be the first time for new candidates in the title and Longboard division.
