Quinn Now Ranked Top Kiwi Surfer In World

Jay Quinn (Gis) has leap-frogged travelling companion Richard Christie (Mah) to become the highest ranked Kiwi surfer in the world at 44th after posting an impressive runner-up finish to Kolohe Andino (USA) at the Fantastic Noodles Kangaroo Island Pro completed in Australia.

2012 Hyundai Tour Dates and Locations Announced

The 2012 Hyundai Tour will kick some life into summer starting early January, with five events taking place at iconic surf spots around New Zealand. World - renowned surf destination, Raglan, is included in the mix for the first time in the tours' six-year history.

The complete calendar of events for the 2012 Hyundai Tour follows:
Hyundai Tour Event 1, 7-8 January, Raglan (4-star)
Hyundai Tour Event 2, 15-21 January, Piha (5-star) - National Championships
Hyundai Tour Event 3, 3-6 February, Sandy Bay (SNZ 6-star / ASP LQS 1-star)
Hyundai Tour Event 4, 18-19 February, Mount Maunganui (4-star)
Hyundai Tour Event 5, 2-3 March, Port Waikato (6-star)

Surfing New Zealand Takes Education Programs To The West Coast

Surfing New Zealand went south to the isolated West Coast region to deliver two surf education programs to the local surfers through the Kahuna Boardriders Club at Greymouth.

Surfing New Zealand Development Manager Lee Ryan delivered International Surfing Association (ISA) accredited surf instructors and judging courses to almost 30 participants.

The local Kahuna Boardriders club are excited about the opportunity to up-skill their members and are already working toward putting programmes in place for their young surfers.

Paige Gloves Up For Charity

New Zealand's most successful surfer, Paige Hareb, is putting her body on the line in the charity boxing night ‘Fight For Life' to raise money for prostate cancer.The match up dubbed ‘Battle of the Blondes' takes place in the coming weeks. Hareb will fight New Zealand snowboarder Hayley Holt in a highly anticipated match up.

Rena Oil Spill

The northeastern coastline of New Zealand has suffered a massive oil spill from a stricken cargo ship that ran aground recently. The ship is breaking in two with oil having gushed out of the ship and washed up on the popular Mount Maunganui Beaches. MORE INFORMATION HERE

About the International Surfing Association

The International Surfing Association (ISA) is recognized by the International Olympic Committee as the World Governing Authority for Surfing. It was originally founded as the International Surfing Federation in 1964 and has been running Open Division World Championships since 1964, Junior World Championships since 1980, and Masters World Championships since 2007. The ISA will hold the first Stand Up Paddle (SUP) World Championship and the first World Bodyboard Championship in 2011.

ISA membership includes the surfing National Governing Bodies of 64 countries on five continents. Its headquarters are located in San Diego, California. It is presided over by Fernando Aguerre (Argentina), first elected President in 1994 in Rio de Janeiro and re-elected seven times since. The ISA's three Vice-Presidents are Alan Atkins (Australia), Mike Gerard (USA) and Karín Sierralta (Peru).
