Thirty five energetic Eastern Cape surfers participated in the second of three national Lizzard Tag Series events and coped well in the small but contestable surf at Pollock Beach in Port Elizabeth on Sunday (September 11).

Billabong Pro Junior Champions for 2011 Crowned in Solid Surf at Vic Bay

With only a slight drop in swell from Saturday, the Billabong Pro Junior Finals went down in dramatic fashion in large surf at Vic Bay as the 4-day event culminated late on Sunday afternoon. After yesterday’s cancellation of competition due to massive waves, it was more than fitting that the final day went off in solid 6-8 foot surf with some very committed and valiant surfers taking on the biggest and best that Vic Bay had to throw at them.

Eastern Cape's best battle it out for top honors.

Surfersvillage, Global Surf News, August 15, 2011. Rain greeted contestants for the final round of the BloodScan Surf Series held at Kitchen Windows in Jeffreys Bay Sunday (August 14). Mother nature may have brought cold, rainy weather but she also delivered fantastic 4 to 6 foot waves that enabled the Eastern Cape’s finest talent in the U13 to U17 boys and girls age groups to battle it out for top honors.

The eighth edition of the WP Open of Surfing, featuring over 40 of South Africa’s top surfers from all parts of the country, was held in conditions that ranged from the sublime to the ridiculous at the weekend.

About the International Surfing Association

The International Surfing Association (ISA) is recognized by the International Olympic Committee as the World Governing Authority for Surfing. It was originally founded as the International Surfing Federation in 1964 and has been running Open Division World Championships since 1964, Junior World Championships since 1980, and Masters World Championships since 2007. The ISA will hold the first Stand Up Paddle (SUP) World Championship and the first World Bodyboard Championship in 2011.

ISA membership includes the surfing National Governing Bodies of 64 countries on five continents. Its headquarters are located in San Diego, California. It is presided over by Fernando Aguerre (Argentina), first elected President in 1994 in Rio de Janeiro and re-elected seven times since. The ISA's three Vice-Presidents are Alan Atkins (Australia), Mike Gerard (USA) and Karín Sierralta (Peru).
