National Women’s Day is being celebrated today by the surfing community through the holding of the second edition of the Women’s Day Surf Challenge presented by Surfing South Africa (SSA) and supported by Sport and Recreation South Africa.

Slade Prestwich, Inge McLaren, Jordy Maree and Ethan Fletcher take Rip Curl Gromsearch titles at Trafalgar

Although the second Rip Curl Gromsearch in the series was scheduled to take place at Southbroom on the KZN South Coast, contest director Ant Brodowicz made a call to move the event to Trafalgar some 20 minutes south where conditions were far more contestable for the 12 to 16 year old boys and girls competing in this popular series.

Surfing South Africa has announced the names of the 2011 South African Masters Team that will compete in the ISA World Masters Championships at Punta Roca, El Salvador in October.

Border wins SA Masters Cup plus four individual titles in epic surf at Nahoon ReefThe Border Masters surfing team won the interprovincial SA Masters Cup for the fifth consecutive year and added four of the seven individual titles to their tally as they completely dominated the 2011 South African Masters Surfing Championships in their home surf.

South African surfing sensation, Jordy Smith, clinched his second consecutive Billabong Pro J-Bay title when he beat Australian Mick Fanning in a tense final held in testing 1.5 metre waves and strong onshore winds at Supertubes in Jeffreys Bay today.

Sobre la International Surfing Association

La International Surfing Association (ISA) es reconocida por el Comité Olímpico Internacional como la organización gobernante del Surfing en el mundo. Fue fundada en 1964 bajo el nombre de International Surfing Federation y ha realizado los campeonatos mundiales Open desde ese entonces, los mundiales juveniles desde 1980 y los mundiales Masters desde 2007. La ISA realizará el primer Campeonato Mundial de Stand Up Paddle (SUP) y el de Bodyboard en 2011.

Los miembros de la ISA incluyen las Federaciones Nacionales de 64 países en los cinco continentes. Sus oficinas centrales se encuentran en San Diego, California. Es presidida por Fernando Aguerre (Argentina), electo Presidente por primera vez en 1994 en Río de Janeiro y reelecto siete veces desde ése entonces. Los tres vicepresidentes de la ISA son Alan Atkins (Australia), Mike Gerard (EUA) y Karín Sierralta (Perú).
