ISA surfschool register is announced

The surfschool industry like all other aspects of the sport of surfing has turned into a global frenzy of activity.  Its early roots in the major surfing nations such as Australia, now sees its influence in all parts of the surfing globe.  The surfschool industry is linked into tourism and vacationing and strongly supports local surfing communities and business, providing many opportunities of employment and travel for participants and staff alike.

Developing from a hungry demand for the “surfing experience” many operators have profited from the opportunity both with quality and non-quality services.

Over the last 20 years the International Surfing Association (ISA) and Surfing Australia have partnered many National Surfing Associations in presenting professional Development courses for their coaches and officials.  Over 15 countries have been involved.

The ISA as the world governing body for the sport of surfing, is launching its International Surfschool Register on Sept 1.  This Register will establish consistent risk management and content standards for its participating surfschools and will be a sign of a quality surfschool to potential customers.  The Register will allow potential school customers to log in and view the ISA registered schools, and compare before making his or her decision.

Surfschools will be required to meet certain operational obligations in order to be accepted on the ISA Register.

In the longer term, various business benefits will become available to the surfschool network.

With millions of surfers passing through the ISA system so far, this International Surfschool Register project will add another level of legitimacy, business support and best practice to the sport globally.  Accreditation and surfschool operational best practice will be available to surfschools, no matter where they are situated, while prospective students will be able to contract their surfing lessons as part of their vacation or travel arrangements.
