MAKKA PRO: the largest contest ever held in Jamaica

Over 30 surfers from countries around the region including Barbados, Trinidad, Tobago, Venezuela, Martinique and the USA converged on ‘The Land Of  Wood And Water’ to compete for over US$3000 in prize money up for the taking in the three divisions being contested at the CSN/JSA ‘Makka Pro’ surf contest.

The event took place at the Makka Surfing Beach in South Haven, Yallahs St Thomas, on Saturday and Sunday the 7th and 8th of July. The waves were consistent on the 4 to 6 feet range both days.  It was the biggest surfing event, witnessed by thousand of Jamaicans and received a major exposure on local TV and Radio.

Legendary surfer Jason Aparicio from Trinidad was the best surfer of the entire contest and won the Open Men division. On the Ladies side, Barbados Alexis Jordan took the crown and the also Barbadian Allan Alleyene won the Bodyboard division.

According to the Jamaican Surfing Association President, Billy Wilmot “The event was the largest contest event held in Jamaica and it was also the largest in terms of spectators”.
