Manuel Selman

With time on his side

Manuel Selman has been proving his qualities as the big “Latin promise” for a long time now.  He was able to show that to the whole world a few weeks ago at the Rip Curl Pro Chile when he almost eliminated three time World Champion Andy Irons during the second round of the competition.

The echo of what could have happened if Irons didn’t catch the wave that changed the heat during the dying minute’s remains in the air.  Manuel Selman knows that his career is starting and he has the right elements to reach the top.

He surfs fast, explosive and he adapts himself to any condition in the water. Focused in the competition as usual, he is one of the Latin surfers with the chance to perform well on the WQS.

After he lost at the Chilean WCT, Manuel said: “This is like a dream come true, I didn’t know much about the place of the competition but I could adapt myself really well. I live abroad right now, it’s a decision I made looking for a professional career and it’s giving me good results right now.

I want to keep on representing Chile. This opportunity I had to compete against Kelly makes me focus even more in the competition.  I’m a Professional surfer and from 2008 onwards I will enter the WQS in search of a spot on the WCT”, said Manual to the press after his performance in El Gringo.

Selman, now a familiar name to the world, is a famous surfer in the Latin American Surfing Community. When he was 15, he made it to the final of his first Professional contest on the ALAS Latin Tour. Then in 2005 and 2006 he became the Latin American Junior Surfing Champion two years in a row. He also competed in three editions of the Quiksilver ISA World Junior Surfing always placing in the top 16.

With plenty of time ahead of him, Selman is undoubtedly the best Hispanic American bet for a spot on the WCT.
