De Vries Wins Quiksilver Pro Junior 2011 at New Pier in Durban

New Pier, Durban – Beyrick de Vries (Umhlanga) put on an unbelievable display of surfing Sunday to beat an in-form Slade Prestwich (Scottburgh) and win the Quiksilver Pro Junior 2011 presented by the City of Durban. De Vries pulled off a series of innovative maneuvers early on in the 25 minute man-on-man final to post a heat total of 15.67 points out of a possible 20 and walked away with R18 000 in prize money for his efforts. Earlier in the day De Vries eliminated Cape Town surfers Matt Pallet and Michael February to reach the final.

Strong Eastern Province team win Mandela Bay Trophy for the third year in a row at the 2011 Billabong SA Grommet Games

Hosts, Eastern Province, dominated the 2011 Billabong SA Grommet Games in Port Elizabeth over the Easter weekend as they convincingly retained the Mandela Bay Best Team trophy for the third year in a row. The Nelson Mandela Bay Trophy is awarded to the provincial team with the highest combination of scores from the individual surfing results as well as the results from the Tag Team, Paddle Battle and Beach Flags.

Sobre la International Surfing Association

La International Surfing Association (ISA) es reconocida por el Comité Olímpico Internacional como la organización gobernante del Surfing en el mundo. Fue fundada en 1964 bajo el nombre de International Surfing Federation y ha realizado los campeonatos mundiales Open desde ese entonces, los mundiales juveniles desde 1980 y los mundiales Masters desde 2007. La ISA realizará el primer Campeonato Mundial de Stand Up Paddle (SUP) y el de Bodyboard en 2011.

Los miembros de la ISA incluyen las Federaciones Nacionales de 64 países en los cinco continentes. Sus oficinas centrales se encuentran en San Diego, California. Es presidida por Fernando Aguerre (Argentina), electo Presidente por primera vez en 1994 en Río de Janeiro y reelecto siete veces desde ése entonces. Los tres vicepresidentes de la ISA son Alan Atkins (Australia), Mike Gerard (EUA) y Karín Sierralta (Perú).
