A Surfing South Africa 4A rated PST event

East London will host the first Surfing South Africa Pro Surf Tour event for 2011 when the Captain Morgan Spiced Gold Buccaneers Surf Classic takes place at Eastern Beach on March 12 and 13. 

This 4A PST contest for Men offers R40,000 in prize money and is certain to attract the country’s best surfers. Not only will the stars of South African surfing make their way to East London aiming for a share of the significant prize purse, but they will also be aiming to get the year off to a solid start as far as PST rating points are concerned.

Border surfer dies in horrific shark attack at Port St Johns

Zama Ndamase (16), a provincial surfer for Border and a 2009 SSA Lotto Scholarship recipient, died this morning (January 15) in a horrific shark attack. He was surfing with his brother, Avuyile, and other members of the local surf club at Second Beach Port St Johns when the attack occurred. 

The talented surfer, who has represented Border a number of times, is the fifth shark victim at this notorious beach in the last three years. Four of the attacks have been fatal.

About the International Surfing Association

The International Surfing Association (ISA) is recognized by the International Olympic Committee as the World Governing Authority for Surfing. It was originally founded as the International Surfing Federation in 1964 and has been running Open Division World Championships since 1964, Junior World Championships since 1980, and Masters World Championships since 2007. The ISA will hold the first Stand Up Paddle (SUP) World Championship and the first World Bodyboard Championship in 2011.

ISA membership includes the surfing National Governing Bodies of 64 countries on five continents. Its headquarters are located in San Diego, California. It is presided over by Fernando Aguerre (Argentina), first elected President in 1994 in Rio de Janeiro and re-elected seven times since. The ISA's three Vice-Presidents are Alan Atkins (Australia), Mike Gerard (USA) and Karín Sierralta (Peru).
