Chelsea Hedges Two Times ISA World Champion

After having won the ISA World Championship in 2002 and the ASP World Championship in 2005, Chelsea Hedges went to Peru to defend the Aussie colors with nothing to lose and a lot to win. She did exactly that and became the only woman in the history of the ISA World Surfing Games to win two gold medals in the Open division.

On a tight battle for the Team Gold between Australia and Peru during the 2010 edition of the Billabong ISA World Surfing Games, the only Aussie to win a gold medal was Hedges. She was quick and precise, scoring above 17.00 points out of possible 20 in the first minutes of the final heat.

She came out of the water victorious and said: “This was an awesome event, and I am really proud of giving to my country as many points as I could. Peruvians showed great surfing and pushed us to do as best as we could. It was tough winning this one, but the joy is greater this way.”

Born in Sydney, October 15, 1983, Hedges had a successful junior career, winning the National Championship several times. She was 19 when she qualified for the Women´s World Tour, and 22 when she won her first ISA and ASP World Title.

In 2008, Hedges took a year off to give birth to her daughter, Meika. She came back one year later to place in the top 10, an impressive feat.

She´s now fifth on the ASP World Tour and along with her fellow countrywoman, Stephanie Gilmore, are the only girls to have won two ISA gold medals in the same event (Gilmore did it in the Quiksilver ISA World Junior Surfing Championship, 2004 and 2005).

A fast, powerful and radical surfer, Chelsea Hedges has won a lot and has the opportunity to win even more.
