Excellent Waves for the Ecuadorian Tour third stage

The third event of the National Ecuadorian Surfing Tour, the Cris-Sal Cup, was carried out at the end of the month of April at Las Piñas beach, which broke long and perfect, together with an ideal climate and the silhouette of the La Plata Island overlooking the competitors crosswise as a colossal witness.

The best Ecuadorian surfers of the Open, Ladies, Longboard and Juniors Sub-12, Sub-14, Sub-16 and Sub-18 divisions participated in the event.  The competition’s Director, Jorge Andant, declared: “The waves were spectacular.  On Saturday they came from the north and never stopped growing.  We could see some shoreline waves of up to three meters, which were masterfully dominated by the athletes.”

With waves of this size and magnitude, for example, the Longboard category competitors tried for more than 40 minutes to pass the break line, to be thrown again and again even further away.  The organizers proposed suspending the final of the smaller group of participants, the Sub-12, and declare a draw, in order not to risk their integrity in the presence of such a furious sea.  The boys voted against this and decided to compete for the first place, showing great decision, courage and sportsmanship.

The best surfing was seen in the Open division.  With great waves and spectacular maneuvers, the level reached its peak in the second semifinal, in which Adrián Dapelo, Carlos Goncalves and Diego Vargas gave it all.

At the end of the day, Israel Barona, won the Open trophy over the favorite professionals Goncalves and Santos.  Also, Maria Beatriz Aguirre said enthusiastically after wining: “This is the result of a lot of work and the support of the family and friends”.

The National Equatorian Circuit will continue in the month of June in the classical waves of Montañita, where the fourth event will take place.
