Historic First-Ever ALAS Event in Brazil

For the first time in history, the Latin American Surfing Association – ALAS, will be promoting an event in Brazilian waters.  The Rio Latin Pro Surf, fifth event of the Latin American 2007 Tour, will take place July 6-8 in legendary Prainha, in Rio de Janeiro.  It is a special six-star plus event that will distribute US$20,000 in prizes to the best surfers of our Continent.

This historic event will take place in Prainha – which means small beach in Portuguese – one of the most visited peaks in Rio de Janeiro.  It is also near famous Barra da Tijuca.  Surrounded by exuberant natural scenery, it is one of the most consistent beaches in Brazil.  Even during the undersized periods, it has reasonable wave breaks.  During its best days, the waves can be excellent, with perfect and tubular two-meter high sections

A total of 128 surfers from 13 countries will be participating in this historic event, decisive for the 2007 race that is presently being led by the Peruvian Sebastián Alarcón.
