Alice McGregor was the star of the Women’s Day Surf Challenge in Port Elizabeth on Monday when she won both the Open and U20 divisions of the event run in solid overhead surf, rain and demanding windswept conditions.

South African Junior Invitation Team to Compete in Reunion in October Named

Twelve surfers, a coach, judge and manager have been selected to compete in an international surfing contest at Reunion Island from October 14-16. The SA Junior Invitation team is made up of surfers whose contest performances have impressed the national selectors over the last twelve months.

Board of Directors Elected at 2010 Surfing South Africa AGM

Mark Hoffman was unanimously elected President of Surfing South Africa at the 2010 AGM held in Newlands, Cape Town on Friday, July 30. Hoffman, who was the Surfing South Africa Vice President, takes over from Cecil Solomon who was not available for re-election.

About the International Surfing Association

The International Surfing Association (ISA) is recognized by the International Olympic Committee as the World Governing Authority for Surfing. It was originally founded as the International Surfing Federation in 1964 and has been running Open Division World Championships since 1964, Junior World Championships since 1980, and Masters World Championships since 2007. The ISA will hold the first Stand Up Paddle (SUP) World Championship and the first World Bodyboard Championship in 2011.

ISA membership includes the surfing National Governing Bodies of 64 countries on five continents. Its headquarters are located in San Diego, California. It is presided over by Fernando Aguerre (Argentina), first elected President in 1994 in Rio de Janeiro and re-elected seven times since. The ISA's three Vice-Presidents are Alan Atkins (Australia), Mike Gerard (USA) and Karín Sierralta (Peru).
