Venezuelan Surfers Unstoppable at Start of Central American Triple Crown

The performance of our athletes in the opening of the Central American Surfing Triple Crown in El Salvador was as spectacular as expected since Venezuela obtained five medals: Francisco “Lolo” Bellorin won the gold in the Open division, Jesus Chacon won silver in the Junior and in Longboard, Ronald Reyes, Armando Colucci and Giancarlo Marin obtained gold, silver and copper respectively.

Venezuelan Surfers Advance to 5th Round of the 2010 Quiksilver Pro Puerto Escondido

Venezuelan surfers Magnum Martinez and Julio Nurse showed a great display of courage, high performance surfing and intelligence in their respective heats, during the 2010 Quiksilver Pro Puerto Escondido. Both faced heavy wave conditions and succeeded in their efforts, making it to the 5th round and showing that Venezuelan surfers are also good in big surf.

Venezuelan National Team Tunes Up

Last weekend was full of activities for the national surf team as the Venezuelan Surfing Federation continues to prepare its athletes.  The cut in the preselected Open Men and Open Women categories took place on Saturday while the Masters and Juniors had special training on Sunday.

Fido Lido beach in Vargas State was the meeting point and presented great wave conditions in the 3 to 4 foot range.

Preliminary National Bodyboard Team Begins Training

Last Saturday on the 4th of July, taking advantage of a small swell that hit the Venezuelan coastline, the Technical Body of the National Team called the preselected Juniors, as well as the preselected Open Men and Women athletes to a training session.

ISA Judging Course Completed Successfully

Under the tutorship of Mr. Gaetano Lauro, the International Surfing Association ministered a course for judges, with the participation of several judges, athletes and some interested outsiders that obtained their accreditation as Level 1 Judges.

The course took place in the Francisco de Miranda hall of the Los Caracas Vacation City.  It lasted 8 hours during which the participants had their doubts cleared and reinforced their information and knowledge as to how to judge the performance of athletes in the water.

Venezuelan Surfing in Mourning Due to Loss of Denis Rangel, a Great Athlete

Our sincere sympathies to the family of Athlete Denis Rangel, in the certainty that they are going through difficult times.  These lines are to offer them our support.

There is nothing we can say to mitigate the pain, death is a certainty, but we never get used to it.  It is best to remember him for what he was: a great human being, athlete and friend.

La Guaira Sports Gym Backs the Preselected Venezuelan National Surfing Team

Thanks to the valuable support of the La Guaira Sports Gym, the members of the preselected National Surfing Team exercise and train in their installations for their future participation in upcoming international competitions. 

In charge of these workouts is Alejandro Perez, fitness coach of the National Team.  The program focuses on cardiovascular resistance and muscular toning.  The latter is carried out in state-of-the-art equipment belonging to the gym.

About the International Surfing Association

The International Surfing Association (ISA) is recognized by the International Olympic Committee as the World Governing Authority for Surfing. It was originally founded as the International Surfing Federation in 1964 and has been running Open Division World Championships since 1964, Junior World Championships since 1980, and Masters World Championships since 2007. The ISA will hold the first Stand Up Paddle (SUP) World Championship and the first World Bodyboard Championship in 2011.

ISA membership includes the surfing National Governing Bodies of 64 countries on five continents. Its headquarters are located in San Diego, California. It is presided over by Fernando Aguerre (Argentina), first elected President in 1994 in Rio de Janeiro and re-elected seven times since. The ISA's three Vice-Presidents are Alan Atkins (Australia), Mike Gerard (USA) and Karín Sierralta (Peru).
