In order to position the reed watercrafts known as “Little Totora Horses” or “Caballitos de Totora” as the first one-person driven crafts used to surf waves in the world, the Trujillo Hawaiian Board League was sworn in. The purpose of this new organization located North of Lima, is to develop surfing, a sport that has brought much success to Peru.
Aside from promoting the sport, the League will schedule events and projects for the environment, which will provide an educational and cultural experience that will benefit young children and youngsters that practice surfing. Additionally, the North Peruvian Hawaiian Board Tour will have three different events this year. Also, interscholastic and interuniversity competitions will be planned. All this action is backed by the District Municipality of Huanchaco that has sponsored surfing in North Peru for several years now.

Swayne confirmed the great moment he’s going through. He has won all types of events, showing solid and compelling surfing. But if Javier doesn’t watch out, he could be overridden by a group of warlike “youngsters” that are looking for the smallest chance to surprise the beach with all kinds of aerials and modern, futuristic moves. The Open National Ranking is headed by two experienced athletes, namely Swayne and Aramburu, followed by an impressive number of juniors that do not allow them to “age” in peace. In this list we find the Jeri Jr., Urcia, Rios, Porcari, Del Castillo, Cruzado, Nugent and Escudero, who are the same guys that are fighting neck to neck in the lower categories.
In these inferior categories, we find great promises such as Lucca Saldivar, Lucca Mesinas and Alonso Correa, which are fighting narrowly for the different titles, although the latter has already secured the Under 12 category. Among the women, there’s a close race between Miluska Tello and Lorene Chauvel in one category, and Melanie Giunta in another. Brissa Malaga is first in the Open Women’s, but if Analí continues participating she can alter this result.
In the Longboard category, we have the pleasure of presenting to you the 2nd National Champion this year. He is Juan José Corzo that grabbed this title for the first time in his career. In the Master’s category, Roberto Meza has displaced Martin Jeri in the leadership and now the latter shares second place with last year’s national champion, Mr. Luis Suzuki.
See you soon and good waves!

The fifth event of the IPD Board Cup that took place in the Trujillo-based seaside resort of Huanchaco, established Miguel Tudela as the event’s champion. Javier Swayne obtained second place and held the first place of the national ranking. However, ‘Miguelito’ is now a real threat. The title ‘s dispute is now red-hot with only three events remaining.
Piccolo Clemente was best again in the Longboard category. The Huanchaco-born athlete showed a total familiarity with the waves as he did when he was Runner Up in the World Championship in the category at the same beach, and was always comfortable on this type of waves. On the ladies’ side, Anali Gomez dominated the final from start to finish.
