2010 Quiksilver ISA World Junior Surfing Championship

Surfing New Zealand would like to thank the ISA and the 21 nations that attended the 2010 Quiksilver ISA World Junior Surfing Championship in New Zealand in January. 

It was a great event and we have had fantastic feedback from all areas in regards to the behavior of the teams and the way the event was run.  

A big thank you to Quiksilver and Tourism New Zealand as the major sponsors of the event as well as the host region Auckland City and Waitakere City.

 

Educational

A Level One ISA Coaching Course has been locked in for May as well as a Level Two ISA Coaching Course to be confirmed.

-1st - 2nd May (Sat/Sun) - Mount Maunganui - Level 1 Course including Community Surf Lifesaving certificate

Humanitarian

One of New Zealand’s top surfers and New Zealand representative, Matt Scorringe has recently been diagnosed with Leukemia throwing his and his partners life into a tailspin. 

The talented surfer and more recently, videographer traveling the world documenting Josh Kerr’s surfing, has a fight on his hands now.  Friends have rallied and put together a support Facebook page, you can visit it here and show your support and help out financially.

Important happenings

Surfing New Zealand’s next board meeting is on the 10th of April with the Key Strategic Challenge to be discussed. About the International Surfing Association

The International Surfing Association (ISA) is recognized by the International Olympic Committee as the World Governing Authority for Surfing. It was originally founded as the International Surfing Federation in 1964 and has been running Open Division World Championships since 1964, Junior World Championships since 1980, and Masters World Championships since 2007. The ISA will hold the first Stand Up Paddle (SUP) World Championship and the first World Bodyboard Championship in 2011.

ISA membership includes the surfing National Governing Bodies of 64 countries on five continents. Its headquarters are located in San Diego, California. It is presided over by Fernando Aguerre (Argentina), first elected President in 1994 in Rio de Janeiro and re-elected seven times since. The ISA's three Vice-Presidents are Alan Atkins (Australia), Mike Gerard (USA) and Karín Sierralta (Peru).
