2010 Quiksilver ISA WJSC - GB Team places 11th

Source: British Surfing Association – www.britsurf.co.uk

Press release issued on Thursday, January 28, 2010

After a couple of disappointing days for the GB Team at the 2010 Quiksilver ISA World Junior Surfing Championship in Piha, New Zealand, the National Surfing Team ended in a very respectable 11th position (out of 21 teams).

Laura Crane, Gabi Rowe and Lucy Campbell were all knocked out of the repercharge rounds on Monday, at podium 2, being beaten by the difficult conditions and some strong surfing from the other competition.

Alex Baker, Nathan Elms and Jobe Harris were the last boys remaining in the repercharge in the Under 18 division. Nathan and Alex met each other in the same heat, with Alex taking the second place and Nathan being knocked out after some very committed surfing in the 3 foot lefts at podium 1.

Jobe Harris, competing in the Under 16 Boys division, unfortunately went out after an unlucky heat where he was lying 2nd for most of the time, but in the last 5 minutes he moved down to third and was unable to improve on his scores, as the previously pumping south Piha lefts just died off for the remainder of the heat!

The remaining 2 surfers for the GB team, Tassy Swallow and Alex Baker, both surfed on Tuesday morning, but were unable to progress further, both getting knocked out in their heats.

Tassy Swallow has been awarded an ISA scholarship of USD0 to be used to progress her surfing career – well done Tassy!
