Joaquín Castagnetto Wins Quiksilver La Herradura Ripley Cup

The classical championship of La Herradura made history once again and the most distinguished performers of Peruvian surfing met again at this mythical beach.

There were a total of 22 heats during an entire day in which surfers such as Sebastian Alarcón, Gabriel Villarán, Cristobal de Col and Álvaro Malpartida, among others, enjoyed the splendid conditions of this wave.

All the surfers showed their warrior-like features in such waves.  However, only Cristóbal de Col, Sebastian de Romaña, Joaquín Castagnetto, José Gómez and Alvaro Malpartida reached the grand final.

All went for the first place, the 4,000 dollar prize and the Ripley Cup. An intense 25-minute long heat was lived in the beach, a great exchange of powerful maneuvers were gave by the finalists.

It looked like Alvaro Malpartida was going to take the first placing, but Joaquín Castagnetto took the wave of the day one minute away from the championship’s ending.  Two strong and radical maneuvers, ending in a deep, extended and perfect tube gave him a perfect score (10 points) and the victory.

Castagnetto placed in this way his name in the history of La Herradura.  Alvaro Malpartida obtained second place, followed by Cristobal de Col, José Gómez and Sebastián de Romaña.
