“Peru is going to this Championship in better conditions than in the
last two. Although Cristóbal de Col is not coming, who is one of our
most important figures, we have a pretty balanced team”, said the
Peruvian Team Manager, Karin Sierralta.
Regarding the weaknesses and strengths of his team, Sierralta said:
“Peruvians have long perfect waves; those waves are our strongest point.
When the conditions turn bad, with wind and rain, it turns bad for us.
We hope to find good waves to obtain good results.”
“Our goal is to get to the Top 8, we have strong rivals, but I think
Peru, because of its waves, tradition and surf must retake the position
it had during the sixties, which means to be among the best teams of the
world. Fortunately, this year we have very important sponsors like
Chevrolet and Movistar, a great support that comfortably took the team
to Portugal”, added Sierralta.
The best result of Peru in the World Junior Surfing Championships was
ninth place in Tahiti in 2004. In its three other competitions, Peru
obtained tenth place in Sudáfrica 2003 and Huntington 2005 and eleventh
in Brazil last year.
