In view of their participation in the World Surfing Games that will take place in Costa Rica during the first days of August, Peruvian surfers Sofia Mulanovich and Gabriel Villarán are keeping to an arduous training program under the instructions of some of the best world-level specialists.
After staying in the Mentawai Islands in Indonesia, Sofia Mulanovich came to Peru for a few days to celebrate her birthday and visit her family. Now, our World Champion and main ace for the ISA tournament is in California, USA. She is following a strict regimen of physical training in the waves of Huntington Beach, where the US Open of Surfing will take place from July 22-25. Sofia is seeded first in these series.
In other news, the former Latin and Pan-American champion Gabriel Villarán has traveled to Indonesia where he will stay for the next few weeks riding the most spectacular waves under the supervision of his renowned coaches. Gabriel competed and won last month at a WQS World Tour event in Arica, Chile,.
With this promising set-up, our main surfers have high hopes of placing Peru among the top finishers, as they did in 2004 Salinas, Ecuador. At that event, Villarán won fourth place, while Sofia obtained the World Title, helping her national team reach fourth place, Peru’s best ranking in history.

Rodolfo Klimax, director of Klimax Surf Boards and Jose “Jarita” Gomez director of Olas Sur Surfing School, donated 15 surfboards on Saturday, July 4th, to needy boys from Punta Hermosa, Lima.
This was part of the campaign “I Want to Dream of You, Peru”. Klimax Surf Boards made its first delivery of surfboards to boys of low-income families belonging to the Punta Hermosa district. This extremely touching and happy moment was made possible thanks to the cooperation of “Jarita” Gomes and the District Mayor, Mr. Guillermo Fernandez Otero,.
It should be noted that this dream was made possible by the entire Punta Hermosa district who took part in this campaign, and especially the surfers who donated their surfboards to turn dreams into reality.
