Bahamas will debut in the Billabong ISA World Surfing Games
The Bahamas Surfing Association, National Governing Body of Surfing in Bahamas, has confirmed the Surfing Team that will be representing them in the Billabong ISA World Surfing Games 2009 that will be held in Playa Hermosa, Jaco, Costa Rica – August 1st through the 8th.
Bahamas will be represented by the following surfers:
1 Blake Sands Open Men
2 Corey Engle Open Men
3 Joshua Sands Open Men
4 Warren Knowles Open Men
5 Sarah Cox Open Women
6 Joshua Sands Longboard
7 Brad Boyd Longboard
This is the first time in history that the Bahamas will bring an official team to the World Surfing Games. They will enter the field in style and with an undeniable presence, with an almost complete team of seven out of eight surfers.
About the International Surfing Association (ISA)
The International Surfing Association (ISA) is recognized by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) as the World Governing Authority for Surfing. It was originally founded as the International Surfing Federation in 1964 and has been running world championships since 1964 and the Junior World Championships since 1980.
ISA membership includes the surfing National Governing Bodies (NGBs) of over 50 countries on six continents. Its headquarters are located in La Jolla, California. It is presided by Fernando Aguerre, first elected in 1994 in Rio, and re-elected six times since. The ISA's four Vice Presidents are Alan Atkins (Australia), Robin de Kock (South Africa), Mike Gerard (USA) and Karín Sierralta (Peru).
