SURFING AMERICA SIGNS VERIZON WIRELESS AS OFFICIAL WIRELESS SPONSOR

The partnership includes support at two key events slated for this summer:  the 2009 Surfing America Summer Surf Jam at the Verizon Wireless Amphitheater and the 2009 SIMA Surfing America USA Championships presented by Verizon Wireless
San Juan Capistrano, Calif. - April 27, 2009 -

Surfing America, the National Governing Body for surfing in the USA, has named Verizon Wireless as the organization's Official Wireless Category Sponsor. 
 
To launch the partnership, Surfing America will host the 2009 Surfing America Summer Surf Jam at Verizon Wireless Amphitheater on Sunday, June 21st.  Additionally, Verizon Wireless will be Presenting Sponsor of the 2009 SIMA Surfing America USA Championships scheduled for August 25-30 at Huntington Beach Pier, CA.

"This is an incredible development," said Surfing America's Executive Director Mike Gerard. "We're extremely pleased and honored to have Verizon Wireless as a marketing partner.  This has given a huge lift to the USA Championships and the concert event is a tremendous new opportunity."

About the International Surfing Association (ISA)
The International Surfing Association (ISA) is recognized by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) as the World Governing Authority for surfing, bodyboarding and surfriding. It was originally founded as the International Surfing Federation in 1964 and has been running world championships since 1964 and the Junior World Championships since 1980.

ISA membership includes the surfing National Governing Bodies (NGBs) of over 50 countries on six continents. Its headquarters are located in San Diego, California. It is presided by Fernando Aguerre, first elected in 1994 in Rio, and re-elected six times since. The ISA's four Vice Presidents are Alan Atkins (Australia), Robin de Kock (South Africa), Mike Gerard (USA) and Karin Sierralta (Peru)
