Rip Curl GromSearch- Strandhill
The Irish leg of the Rip Curl GromSearch European surf series was hosted in Strandhill, Co Sligo, May 9th – 10th.
Groms from all over the country arrived to compete in the prestigious event. Competitors included Ireland’s top four U16 Boys, who recently competed at the Quiksilver ISA World Junior Surfing Championships in Ecuador, in addition to those who were experiencing their first taste of competition.
The top prize included an all expenses paid trip for the best U16 Boy and U16 Girl to compete in Godrevey in Cornwall on the 20th & 21st of June against the winners from England and Wales.
The winners of this event will go on to compete in the GromSearch European finals held during the 3 star Rip Curl Pro Junior in Hossegor on August 21st – 23rd.

National Beach Clean Up
Our National Beach Clean Up will be taking place on Sunday May 17th. We are calling on surfers to organise a clean up at their local spot. It doesn't take much organization, contact the environment department in your local county council and let them know your plans. They will provide bags and gloves, and trash collection when you are finished. Email the details of your event and we will post it on our website to encourage others
to come along to give you a hand.
Garrettstown Beach Clean Up
Summer is upon us and we, at Gtown Surf School, are hosting a Beach Clean Up on Sunday, May 17th. We are meeting at the Surf School trailers at 10am. Bags and gloves will be provided to all volunteers and all trash collected will be disposed of appropriately by Cork County Council. We would like to invite all surfers who Surf Garrettstown to make the effort and give an hour or two to make the place fresh & clean. Coffee Dock will be treating anyone who helps out, to a free Tea / Coffee / Hot Chocolate afterwards.

Galway Beach Clean Up
As part of the Volvo Ocean Race activities, the Explorers Group (Marine Institute, Galway Atlantaquaria and NUIG) will be having a beach clean from Rinville, Oranmore to Silverstrand, Barna over the weekend of May 15th – 17th. If any surfers are in the area and would like to take part, they can get more information on beaches and times from www.nationalaquarium.ie
About the International Surfing Association (ISA)
The International Surfing Association (ISA) is recognized by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) as the World Governing Authority for surfing, bodyboarding and surfriding. It was originally founded as the International Surfing Federation in 1964 and has been running world championships since 1964 and the Junior World Championships since 1980.
ISA membership includes the surfing National Governing Bodies (NGBs) of over 50 countries on six continents. Its headquarters are located in San Diego, California. It is presided by Fernando Aguerre, first elected in 1994 in Rio, and re-elected six times since. The ISA's four Vice Presidents are Alan Atkins (Australia), Robin de Kock (South Africa), Mike Gerard (USA) and Karin Sierralta (Peru).
