MARESIA SPONSORS THE BASE DIVISIONS OF NATIONAL SURFING
The surfwear brand invests R$190 thousand –around USD 80.000- in the Brazilian Amateur Tour.
This circuit will have its second stage at Ubatuba from May 15-17, San Pablo. With these investments, Maresia aims at contributing to the development of national surfing;
that’s its philosophy, that’s why it invests in Maresia Brazilian Surf Tour, the biggest amateurs tour in the country.
The event will take place at Itamambuca beach, in Ubatuba, a classic scenario for surfing championships since the ‘70s.
The Maresia Brazilian Amateur Tour is organized by the Brazilian Surfing Confederation (CBS for it initials in Portuguese) and it costs R$190 thousand, divided into the four stages of the season. The first one was in São Gonçalo do Amarante/CE, the third one will be in Olivença/BA (August 21-23) and the fourth one will be carried out in Balneário Camboriú/SC (September 18-20).
“We believe that if we keep investing in young talent, Brazil will continue to out in international competitions,” said Sebastião Dantas, General Manager of Sand Beach, the company that runs the brand Maresia.
This is the sixth consecutive year that Maresia is the official sponsor of this championship. This event defines which athletes will represent Brazil in world championships as the ISA World Surfing Games (the “Olympics of Surfing”) and the PanAmerican Surfing Games. “Investing in Brazilian Amateur Tour is the best way of helping the development of an entire generation related to the national surfing.”
Juca de Barros, President of the CBS said: “Maresia doesn’t budget their efforts in contributing to the development of surfing in the country.”
The biggest amateur surfing body in Brazil, the CBS, will see 196 surfers, who represent the 14 Brazilian states (RS, SC, PR, SP, RJ, ES, BA, SE, AL, PE, PB, RN, CE and PA) that will participate at Itamambuca’s waves. There will be six individual divisions (Beginner, Groms, Junior, Open, Junior Girls and Open Girls) and there will also be a team title in the event.
After the stage at Ubatuba, the first surfers on the ranking in Open, Junior and Open Girls will have a place in the team that will represent Brazil in the Billabong ISA World Surfing Games from August 1-8. With just one stage held so far, Djackson Paulino has the first place in Open; Bárbara Seggato in Open Girls, and Santa Catarina’s representative, Ian Gouveia, in Junior.
The second stage of the Maresia Brazilian Surfing 2009 is organized by the Brazilian Surfing Confederation and it is sponsored by Maresia. The co-sponsors are:
