Three Peruvians obtain ISA Scholarships
More than 80 juniors from 24 countries applied and, together with other 37 juniors, Miguel Tudela, Joaquin Del Castillo and Juninho Urcia were awarded ISA Scholarships.  Requirements were being less than 18-years-old, being a good grade student and having surfing talent.

They had to present an essay demonstrating why they deserved the grant and how they would spend the money; obviously, the sum could only be used for their education and sports training.

Juninho Urcia, the son of a craft fisherman from Huanchaco, became the only surfer to obtain a scholarship for three years in a row.  ISA renewed it because he has continuously obtained good grades and been surfing even better.  Juninho managed to classify in the Under 18 category of this world junior competition being only 13-years-old.   ISA honored him during the nation’s meeting, pointing out that he got his grant at 11-years-old and kept his promise by studying and surfing every single day, and classifying to a world championship at only 13.

Likewise, Joaquin del Castillo and Miguel Tudela obtained their first scholarship, promising to obtain high grades and continue their training to develop the great talent they possess.
