Jamaica Junior Surf Team finish 23rd at the World Junior Surfing Championship
The curtains came down on the 2009 Quiksilver ISA World Junior Surfing Championship in Salinas Ecuador on Sunday April 5th. Team Australia walked away with top honours with Hawaii, Brazil, USA, France, South Africa, New Zealand, Tahiti, Peru and Costa Rica rounding off the top 10. Jamaica fielded six surfers out of a maximum team of twelve.
“The Youngsters did us proud, especially the under 16 duo of Ackeam Taylor and Garren Pryce,” said JSA President Billy Wilmot, “they gave their teammate and Captain, top finishing under 18 Shane Simmonds, good support by advancing and putting half their division behind them.”
Jamaica fielded 6 of a possible 12 entrants which severely limited Jamaica’s final world ranking potential. None the less the partial team was able to finish 23rd ahead of Italy, Morocco, Canada, Guatemala and Nicaragua.
