Hawaii is one of the greatest producers of amazing junior surfers and is definitely on the favorite list of teams to take Australia off the throne. In the 2005 edition of the event in Huntington Beach, Hawaii won the Gold in the Overall Team Standings, with one individual Gold Medal (Tonino Benson in the Under 16 Boys) in addition to a Bronze and Copper in Under 18 Girls (Carissa Moore and Lani Hunter).
They have competed in six editions of the event, always placing in the top 5.
